HOW DO QUILTS AND COVERLETS DIFFER FROM COMFORTERS?
When it comes to quilts, coverlets, and comforters, the basics are the same and all three are designed for warmth and style. However, quilts and coverlets are usually thinner and more lightweight than comforters, whereas comforters are thicker and provide more warmth.
With just a glance, it’s easy to see that comforters are bulkier and fluffier while quilts and coverlets are flatter and denser. The construction is also noticeably different. Quilts are created using three thin layers, the middle being insulation, with a series of patterned stitches holding the layers together. Comforters most commonly have a fabric shell similar to a pillowcase that’s filled with insulative batting or feathers and is permanently stitched closed.
